The saint continuedto support his desolate churches, till, in 849, the see of Bremenbecoming vacant, pope Nicholas united it to that of Hamburg, andappointed him bishop of both. He expressly condemned Nestorianism before itwas broached, and says, No one dare call the holy Virgin and mother ofGod, mother of man. d his days in that monastery; so desired them to provide the churchof Constantinople with a worthy pastor in his room.
